Pets

All dogs and cats must be registered with Council. Any dog or cat that has been born or changed owners since 1999 must also be microchipped and lifetime registered. Registering your animal means that if your pet is lost it will be easier to locate. Your pet must wear a collar and identification tag as this will help in the speedy return of your animal.
Step 1 – Your dog or cat must be chipped by 12 weeks of age for lifetime identification. Vets, animal welfare organizations and other authorised people can microchip your cat or dog.
Step 2 – Your dog or cat must be registered with any local Council by six months of age.
To register:
An application form must be completed and fees paid (if applicable). These forms are available from Council’s Help & Service Centre or from the Companion Animals Website.
When you register you will need:
A certificate of microchipping or a letter from your vet
Proof of desexing from your vet or a statutory declaration
Any documents which entitle you to a discount
The registration fees from 13 January 2006 are:
Desexed animals $40
Undesexed (entire) animals - $150
Desexed animals owned by an eligible pensioner - $15
Undesexed animals kept by a registered breeder for breeding purposes - $40
Assistance dogs – free
If your dog is lost or found unleashed in a public place, it can be seized by Council Officers and taken to Council’s pound at the Thornleigh Veterinary Hospital, 180 Pennant Hills Rd, Thornleigh.
